Women Who Sit Next To Alcoholic Drinks Seen As More Likely To Consent To Sex

Writing this as a woman I can totally see how the statement "Women Who Sit Next To Alcoholic Drinks Seen As More Likely To Consent To Sex" would be true.

According to a recent study published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Review, women who simply sat next to a beer at the bar were perceived by both men and women as more flirtatious and more likely to consent to. Some men perceive alcohol consumption in women as an indication of sexual intent.

The truth of the matter is that a women’s sexual interest is actually diminished by alcohol, says the Mayo Clinic. Ethanol reduces both men’s and women’s sexual sensitivity with regular and prolonged drinking. In men, alcohol can pose a challenge for getting and maintaining an erection, while for women it can reduce lubrication, ability to orgasm, and the intensity of the orgasm. Meaning that  alcohol is anything but an aphrodisiac.

A team of researchers at Deakin University School of Psychology in  Australia, sought to determine whether assumptions of sexual intent can extend to the simple presence of alcohol. A total of 147 sexually experienced participants
  •  69 male
  •  78 female
were recruited for the study. The cohort was shown a brief video of social interaction between a man and woman depicted with either a bottle of water or alcohol. The participants were asked to rate the female target on sexual intent to determine the association between gender and alcohol placement of processing sexual intent.

The findings revealed men rated the actress in the video as more flirtatious, promiscuous, and seductive when she was sitting next to the beer, compared to the women participants.

Calorie Counting Campaign to Drink Less Alcohol Targets Women

A CALORIE counting campaign is being launched in the UK to encourage weight-conscious women to drink less.

British MPs and peers think that alcoholic drinks should all display the number of calories that they contain.

Tory MP Tracey Crouch, who chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Alcohol Misuse said “We’ve seen an increase in the number of women drinking and relating that to calorie numbers will have a positive impact,”

She insists that the ‘tiny’ voluntary logos on wine bottles warning consumers to drink responsibly are not enough. I don’t see why alcohol labels shouldn’t include evidence-based health-warnings such as ‘excessive alcohol consumption can harm your liver,’

The number of calories in your evening drink:
Pint of Guinness (draught) – 210
Gin and tonic (25ml Gordon’s with standard tonic) – 169
Small glass of white wine (125ml of 13% strength) – 114
Shot of whisky (40ml) – 100
Pint of lager (4% strength) – 189

Landlord Puts Focus on Non-Alcoholic drinks After Near-Death Experience

So Ive come across this story http://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk by Pete Grant

It is about a landlord that was told by doctors he would die if he carried on drinking.  The news has resulted in him taking his trade in a new, alcohol free direction as he continues his recovery.

Clive Harvison, has run the Kings Head in Little Marlow since 2007, he was rushed to hospital in October last year after an internal hemorrhage caused by alcohol.

He said: "I have drunk for many years, it’s not something that just happened. But after I had the pub one thing led to another and I ended up drinking more. It’s not nice when you’re trying to carry a cup of coffee to someone and half of it end up in your lap because you’ve got the shakes, then you know you have a problem. And there’s the sweating, the forgetting. The consultant drew me a picture of a cliff and said ‘that is your liver’, and that I was so close to the edge that it would only take a few more steps and once you go over there’s no coming back. In October 2013 I was rushed to Wexham Park Hospital. My wife was informed that there was a distinct possibility I wouldn’t make it and to contact relatives.
"Thankfully I am ok now, and have had great support from my family. I have grandchildren now and I want to see them grow up. My customers have been extremely supportive as well."
Clive said despite his job exposing him to temptations behind the bar, he will not feel forced to give up the trade he enjoys."

As with many people, since clive stopped drinking, he gets annoyed at the lack of non-alcoholic drink options in pubs and restaurants, and criticised them for raising the price of soft drinks.

Clive searched high and low for suppliers of top quality non-alcoholic varieties, to which he devotes a page of his pub menu to offer drinkers something different to their usual tipple.
He said. "I like to go out to eat, and I begrudge paying over £20 for a very nice dish and having to drink lemonade with it, that’s an insult. It’s not just for people on health grounds, but because of drink driving. Somebody has to drive, especially with Christmas coming up. There’s nothing worse for someone who drinks to stop completely. I admire people that can, but for me it’s psychological.
I never judge anyone on their drinking habits, that’s up to them. For me it’s coming up for a year now, but you can still have a laugh without alcohol."

Domino’s Applies for Licence to Deliver Alcohol

ALCOHOL could soon be delivered to your front door with your pizza order if Domino’s Pizza has its application for an alcohol licence approved (The application relates to the pizza giant’s store at 5 The Broadway, Newbury.)

Newbury town councillors have slammed the plans with its Conservative group leader Tony Stretton (Clay Hill) likening the scheme to “delivering alcohol on a platter” to underage drinkers, at a meeting of its planning and highways committee on Monday night.

Jeff Beck (Con, Clay Hill), said: “We all know the situation you get. An older person will sometimes front a party and the people who are actually consuming the alcohol are under age. There’s totally insufficient protection for the young people of the district. This could potentially be very misused.”

Sarah McGhie, A spokeswoman for Domino’s, said that all staff would be trained on the procedures required when selling alcohol, and would be given a script to follow.

“At the point of sale, if the staff member suspects that they are already intoxicated or have concerns over the customer then they [can] refuse to sell alcohol to them,” she said. “By providing all of this information during the order process, we are limiting the exposure of the driver.”

A decision is due to be made at a meeting of West Berkshire Council’s licensing committee on October 15, in its Market Street offices at 2pm.

What do you think? Would you use the delivery service to purchase alcohol with your food? Are you concerned that it could lead to alcohol being easily obtained by underage drinkers?

A Bicester  branch got its approval back in July 2013, that was the second branch, having not been able to source any derogatory news stories regarding this we are assuming that is running well, we have been unable to track down which store was the first.

How would you feel if this was available in your area?

Can't Get Enough of Homer Simpsons Duff?

Im going to start by saying that I didnt even know that you could buy "Duff" beer so this was a new one on me.  Its being sold in Australian bottle shops, or at least for the next few days!

Woolworths, through its Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores, began stocking a replica of the famous cartoon brew back in May. However this week they have been told they have to stop selling it  after Duff Beer was found to be in breach of the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code. (they are allowed to sell the stock they currently hold. So you might be able to grab one last can in the next day or two still.)

The ABAC panel decided “The association of The Simpsons with the product name and packaging is so strongly entrenched in Australian popular culture that the name and packaging will draw the attention of under 18 year olds,” .

Brewer Lion Nathan also produced their own Duff Beer in the 1990s but that ended when Twentieth Century Fox, which broadcasts The Simpsons, won a Federal Court battle over the brand’s trademark.

Alcohol Policy Coalition spokeswoman Sondra Davoren hailed the ABAC panel decision, saying Woolworths disregarded marketing standards and the product never should have hit the shelves.

“Research shows a correlation between the age of a person’s first drink and the development of harmful drinking patterns later in life. That is why it is really important that alcohol producers are not allowed to target kids.”

“We respect the panel’s adjudication and will discontinue the stock,” the spokeswoman said.

Ms Davoren said the Alcohol Policy Coalition wanted the State Government to restrict how, where and when children were exposed to alcohol advertising, which she said was supported by 77 per cent of Victorians.

Alcohol Manufacturer Adds Viagra to Drinks

Huang's alcoholic drinks with rogue ingredient (Picture: Reuters)
A Chinese alcohol manufacturer has been arrested for ‘improving’ his drinks with Viagra in order to trigger a rise in his profits.

The "entrepreneur" known only as Mr Huang, the liquor maker was unable to continue the illegal practice after his customers noticed the unusual side-effect of drinking the spirits. The drinks were marketed by Nine Springs Ecological Agriculture Development Company in Hubei province, as ‘nutritional healthy liquor’ and sold at prices of up to 60 yuan (£5.85) per bottle.

The company was said to have purchased 1kg of Sildenafil – marketed as Viagra and Revatio – on the internet in January and added it to his alcoholic beverages without mentioning it on the label, Huang said his motivation was to ‘increase alcohol sales and make money fast’, according to CNA.

Huang admitted he knew that it was against the law and may have to take a long, hard look at his business methods in future. It is unknown whether sales of Huang’s alcohol rose during the period that the Sildenafil was added.

British Pubs to Serve Lower-Alcohol Wine

The British government has agreed with pubs and bars across the country to stock and promote house wines below 12.5 percent alcohol. The aim is to curb binge drinking and alcohol abuse in the U, the effects of which are estimated to cost British taxpayers £21 billion a year

This week, industry representatives agreed on a range of measures to assist with this cause including asking bar owners and retailers to:

  • Take super-sized cans off their shelves
  • Take high alcohol cans off their shelves
  • Stock lower-alcohol wines as their house wine
  • Display and promote alcohol in shops and supermarkets “responsibly.”

The measures are part of the government’s Public Health Responsibility Deal which aims to remove one billion alcohol unit from the market, and implement responsible labelling system wide.

First "No Alcohol" Lager on Draught Set to Hit the UK

Spanish beer Estrella Galicia was launched in the UK in 2012 and is now rolling out its 0.0% ABV brew in kegs to UK pubs and bars from this month.

“We are delighted to have become the first-ever brand to bring a 0.0% lager product to the UK in keg format,” said brand manager Lindsay Castling. "This is an exciting time for Estrella Galicia 0.0%, with a whole programme of activity planned to support and really push the product here in the UK.”

The Marketing activity is to be based around the beer’s sponsorship of the MotoGP, including current world champion Marc Marquez and its own team in Moto3.

The beer, the flagship brand of the Corporación Hijos de Rivera, is brewed using the exact same recipe as the brand’s premium 4.7% lager, and then the alcohol is removed post brewing. They have had an "extremely positive response so far, especially on taste, as Estrella Galicia 0.0% really does hold its own when it comes to quality against our 4.7% lager. We’re looking forward to offering a great alternative to the run-of-the-mill sweeter-style soft drinks in the alcohol-free sector,” Castling said.

Three of the brewery’s beers are currently available: Estrella Galicia Alcohol Free, the main 4.7% ABV lager and a 1906 Reserva Especial.
